Cape Clear Island is a well-known destination for sea watching with regular courses provided by the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group. There are various local Whale and Dolphin boat operators including ourselves available for private charter. You can also do this for free from various locations on the Island itself, with good binoculars and guide book being recommended though not necessary. Amongst the species regularly seen from the Island are minke and fin whales, common and harbour dolphins, basking sharks, porpoises, seals and occasional leatherback turtles. Otters are a constant presence and though shy and elusive can also be seen.
