The trip from Baltimore or Schull takes only 40 minutes and you get a splendid view of the rugged coastline whilst inhaling the fresh sea air and if you’re lucky some whales or dolphins along the way in these wildlife-rich waters.
You are greeted by steep hillsides covered with heather, gorse and wildflowers, sparkling harbours and spectacular cliffs before the ferry slides into the narrow entrance of Trá Chiaráin, or North Harbour.
Our Island has one Irish Language Summer School, a range of restaurants and pubs, and a range of accommodation including a youth hostel, yurt village, campsite and various guesthouses. There is also a choice of holiday homes.
Cape Clear Island has a lively social and traditional music scene, particularly during the summer months when the local musicians are joined by visitors, a place where jazz and jam meets trad.
